This was shot in the sand dunes of Death Valley. At sunrise, we went deep in because I wanted to photograph the perfect lines of the dunes. Suddenly, there was a strong sandstorm and we couldn’t open our eyes or leave. Because the wind and sand were very strong, I used a lot of strength to shout to her and used gestures to communicate what I wanted her to do. She was very brave and stood in the sandstorm for 5 minutes, facing the wind and sand. And she had to do that because the sun was in that direction. We finally finished shooting, and everyone was very happy.
Since I began to take wedding photos, every pieces of my work is for the guests, but also for myself. Since I started to have a clear personal shooting style, every guest who came to me to take pictures wants my unique style. They are willing to accompany me to create another wonderful moment, creating one unforgettable moment after another.
I’m so very happy to receive my second Grand Award in WPPI’s Print Competition. It’s not only a recognition for myself, but also a great encouragement. When I heard my name announced, I had a feeling that my dream had come true. For me, participating in the WPPI Print Competition is actually for the sake of improving my work. The affirmation and understanding of the judges helps me stick to my style. — Feng He
