Wedding Photos and Portraits of the Week | Rangefinder

Did you see our most recent Photos of the Day? In our daily series highlighting some of the most interesting images in wedding and portrait photography, the editorial staff asks the creatives behind the photos to detail the backstory and technical approach. Here’s what caught our eye this week.

Styled Shoot From Home: Bridal Boutique with Family

Photographer Mo Davis very cleverly set up and photographed a styled shoot for a bridal boutique, Ivory & White, using only elements that were close to home: the model is her cousin, the venue is her house and the light is all natural, thanks to a big window.

For Wedding Dress Drama, Photographer Captures It in Mid-Air

“This shot needed to be dramatic!” photographer Vanessa Hicks exclaims. “I had someone on the side hold her train up and jump away—and boom, dramatic!”

A Portrait Photographer’s Prompt for Natural Family Photo

To capture a family of five interacting naturally and peacefully, George Kusumose of G n V Photography asked them not to look at the camera as the father told them a story, hoping that would usher in an intimate and engaging scene. “Then this graceful frame came up,” says Kusumose, who clicked the shutter just as one of the daughters couldn’t help but peek over at him.

Portraits and Stories of High School Seniors in Pandemic

Miami-based portrait and commercial photographer Mary Beth Koeth had flown to Dallas to stay with her sister and her family in the beginning of March to see her niece and nephew—then stayed three months, homeschooling them while her sister and her husband worked from home. Having packed a camera, she reached out to graduating seniors to find out how they were feeling about missing their expected milestones like prom, graduation and other specialty ceremonies.

Photographing Summer Vibes with Sunny Perspective

“I was so inspired by all of these green striped umbrellas and chairs they had by the pool and the way the peachy-toned floors looked with them,” recalls photographer Michaella Jelin-Till of Yellow Bird Visuals, who brought along her friend to assist and model on a shoot for Park MGM in Las Vegas. At one point, “we were sitting by the pool photographing some food and drinks and there was a fleeting moment where the other chairs next to us were empty, and the light was hitting right.” That’s when she knew she needed to get the shot.
